Accessibility statement

The standard we build to

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. The site is tested with keyboard-only navigation, at 200% browser zoom, and with automated audits on every page. Semantic HTML is used throughout — real headings, real tables with captions and scope, real form labels, real lists.

Contrast

The palette is a cold silver on lead grey, which is exactly the kind of pairing that fails contrast quietly. So the ground is taken deliberately dark and body text deliberately light:

• Body text measures approximately 13:1 against the page background, well above the 4.5:1 minimum.
• Secondary and supporting text measures at least 5.9:1, above the same minimum.
• The primary action inverts to near-black on a silver plate, measuring roughly 16:1 — above the 7:1 target we set for ourselves rather than the 4.5:1 the standard requires.
• Hairlines and borders are decorative and never the only way information is conveyed.

Keyboard and focus

• Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a logical order.
• A visible focus ring is drawn on every focusable element, at 2 px with an offset so it is not swallowed by the underlying border.
• A skip link is the first item in the tab order on every page.
• The cookie banner is announced as a dialog and both buttons are equally reachable.
• Filter and selection controls report their state with aria-pressed, not colour alone.

Content decisions

• Hallmark status is always text. “Hallmarked — Birmingham” or “Below 7.78 g exemption weight” is written out on every card, every product page and in the bag. It is never carried by an icon, a colour or a badge alone.
• Silver weight survives every breakpoint. The weight and hallmark line under each product card is not hidden on narrow screens, because it is the substance of the listing.
• Specification tables are real tables with captions, header cells and scope attributes, so a screen reader can navigate them by row and column.
• Images have descriptive alternative text written for what the photograph actually shows. Purely decorative images, including the hover-swap detail shot on product cards, are hidden from assistive technology.
• Numerals are tabular so weights and prices align in a column and are easier to compare.

Motion

The site respects prefers-reduced-motion. With that setting on, the hero loop does not load at all, the manifest strip stops scrolling, transitions collapse to near-zero and smooth scrolling is disabled. Nothing on the site flashes, and nothing auto-plays with sound.

Known limitations

We would rather list these than imply the site is perfect.

• The catalogue matrix uses deliberately uneven cell spans on large screens. The visual order and the DOM order match, but the layout is denser than a plain grid and may take longer to scan at high magnification.
• Product photography is shot at very high magnification to show surface finish. Pieces appear far larger on screen than in the hand; the millimetre figures in the specification block are the reliable guide.
• The ring size table on a product page is scrollable within a fixed height on small screens. The full, unconstrained table is on the ring size guide page.
